RTR
WAY green on the way up independence pass 12,200 feet above see level and over to aspen...and yes that is snow.
SNAKE RIVER in idaho, for those of you who are snake lovers....
the bike in the landscape somewhere in utah
BLOODY, BLOODY KNEE
some pictures from Ride The Rockies, a bike tour thru the colorado mountains...my bloody knee was not from a fall on the bike, but an encounter with a porta-potty door (seen on right in background) that got out of control. only blood i shed on the trip. it was cool and comfortable weather and we went thru some snow spitting on us outside of aspen. lots of food and laughs, some friends showed up to enjoy the ride and the scenery.

Training Hill (hill being the operative word when i am going to the mountains...)

Training Trail

Ride The Rockies (RTR) spoke cards to be handed out at the top of the three passes.

book clubbing

so, i have always wanted to write a book. this is the cover to my first draft...sketches and pieces of my day. what to trash and what to save, constant decisions we make in our lifes, every moment every second as we inhale and exhale RESPIRATING physically and emotionally consuming and liberation our emotional ties with existence. bodies unconsciously exchanging with surrounding bodies of energy. releasing engaging love/life/tension/peace. compressing the space between us, squeezing moments into hardened crystal memories to put in our pockets and carry with us so that we may loose them in the laundry or toss them into future bodies of water. breathing.
RESPIRATION The oxidative process occurring within living cells by which the chemical energy of organic molecules is released in a series of metabolic steps involving the consumption of oxygen and the liberation of carbon dioxide and water.
ASPIRATION Aspiration (phonetics), the release of a strong burst of air after some obstruents

FLYIN HIGH

flying into seattle this massive volcano filled our window...lots of personality there. some new sketches, been a little more disciplined in my sketching/drawing and utilizing my skills. still drawn to observing and drawing architecture, the shadows of form defining space with the use of line... use of line to record my thought processes. stephen and alison have worked hard to finish their house...beautiful and inspirational to draw, nice proportions. updated some paintings below, CUP OF TEA and ARTERIAL VIEW are recent additions. more to come.
a painting in progress with detail.

early morning sitting at red rocks looking east over the hogback towards green mountain and the colorado plains...

just drawin whats in front of me. blindly.

alison and i spent some very cold time looking for these gladiolas, ended up i got distracted by the table cloth blowing in the warm wind that evening...

finally got to ride in the carman gia, robins egg blue with the radio very loud...at one point i think the sky was the same color as the car.

a few views of stephen and alisons' home from the back...

architecting
sometimes the energy goes into paint and other times it spits out as architecture/drawing/designing. this is a little sleeping addition i have been working on as of late. some sketches leading up to the computer drawings, will add some model shots in the next few days. the sketches are not dated, but i do believe they are chronological in regards to my process. thought it would be interesting, so often now with the use of the computer we lose are thought process as we save the files...no remnants of our journey to the final structure....end up repeating ourselves sometimes because we forget that we already visited a certain scheme or such. this is one of those projects that remind you of why you went through architecture school.

these drawings have my notes on them, talking to myself while drawing...a lucid state of recording thoughts that drift through my head. responsive to the radio or books that i am reading and words just popping up...music playing in the background and some verse catching in my head...these are the words that end up on the paper. very much like the paintings i do, switching back and forth from a visual vocabulary and the verbal language. words/marks/letters/numbers self-organizing moments.

and then the computerization occurs...building it in model giving it life by adding another dimension.

late night painting as heat lightning fills the sky, humidity softens the air. storms on the otherside, protected by the sound...i pulled images off the web from all the midwest flooding, aerial shots. initial photo of a missisippi tributary flooding farmlands and the painting in progress.

ex CHANGELING
now is titled "CELL CONVERSATION"...just broken up bits of information that get re-assembled into some other kind of entity. like some parts, not sure about the whole...but it is on its third leg. i like the details of this, which show the cadence of the mark making that occured, pencil and china marker moving through the paint at different speeds leaving remnants behind, recording the act? like the touch of someones fingers on your skin still felt decades later. imprint and fingerprints taking on tatoo like qualities, embedded in ones epidermis. layers of translucent memories a vessel stretching to contain the expansive life...stretch marks forming, moving and on the surface reflecting the tides...attraction menage a troi. moon sun earth dancing swinging pushing and pulling...moonlight filling the night sky, light trickling down through the russeled leaves pushing their way to the daytime sunlight.

LIFE BOAT series
born out of all the rain/wetness that has been visiting us as of late...sloppy emotionalism splattered on the canvas. feeling like drawing more, use to do this on paper but taking it a bit larger and bringing it to the plaster on board. can see the roots of this piece in some of my paper work (ref: interior A/interior B/interior C/ interior D) which were done as sectional work as opposed to the plan like quality of my landscape investigations. the sectional interior work concentrates more on the lucid emotional body, the unspoken interior energy we all keep within our skin...life boats also refer back to an instructor i had in art school by the name of patricia renick (university of cincinnati) she investigated boats and i do believe called them life boats, which brings up duality of a vessel to hold(people)/embrace-[Etymology: Middle English, from Anglo-French embracer, from en- + brace:pair of arms]/include as opposed to keeping out (water)/omit/prevent/ostracize-[Etymology: Greek ostrakizein to banish by voting with potsherds, from ostrakon shell, potsherd]...funny, i would use potsherds/broken shells to describe the discombobulation of "cell conversation"
OSTRAKON
Main Entry: os·tra·con
Pronunciation: \ˈäs-trə-ˌkän\
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural os·tra·ca \-trə-kə\
Etymology: Greek ostrakon potsherd, shell — more at oyster
Date: 1883
: a fragment (as of pottery) containing an inscription —usually used in plural
hmmm, so they would inscribe/write/record information on these sherds kind of like inscribing on as an act of painting/recording daily life...
it rained alot here in the pacific northwest...keep that in mind inregards to the subtitle.

changling
this transpired from the langley middle school art/creativity event that occurred a few weeks ago....set up a canvass and did some drawing and painting and let anyone else add to the piece. sat in my studio for a while and started working on it this weekend...something about change. ghandi said be the change you want the world to be, which is scary for many of us...cause sometimes it does not look like what we thought the change would look like when we began and we forget that the process/journey is the change and that it is organic and non linear when at its best, when change has a life of its own and we are able to let go and just be...ghandi experienceD this when as his ideas and changes took on a life of their own and india was not looking like he thought it might be. so this painting takes off and is what it is and will be something else after some time and alot of patience. maybe it is one of those works that will never be complete and will be in a constant state of flux, always changing and electronic images to record its journey.

what i did for my memorial day vacation
starting to make boxes again...cut up a painting a tied it back together with words and steel strapping and staples and lots of tender lovin care. felt good to let go of it. the painting...and think of other things besides myself. and i. the greenhouse is progessing with lots of little details. and the flagstone patio was a whole nother challenge, like a giant puzzle only heavier. but life is good, jazz found a painting in the trees on her first hike out. which of course we overdid...got a little lost early in the morning and she ended up being sore from too much walking/running/playing.

BACK OF MY HAND 36x12 oil on plaster

this one shifted from a vertical plane to a horizontal laying down painting to shifting on the Y axis...it is now vertical piece, holding its moment in the palm of my hand.
BACK OF MY HAND DETAIL I

BACK OF MY HAND DETAIL II

paint recording the drainage patterns across the board, topographical imprints left behind... movement consistently layered upon itself.

ahhh...this one has already shifted, juxtaposed and become a vertical and more or less robust colors and writings and is wet as hell in this atmosphere or cloudiness. good to work on it last night...active nightness things rustling in the bush, and me wanting a bigger/drier/warmer studio. laid the canvass flat to stop the dripping, thicker/richer paint moving on the canvass pushing and pulling. painting. conversing with myself and dreaming in line and shape and color. words spoken activate images in my mind, leaving imprints on my retina. patinaed living. emotions translate to images burned in the emulsion of my heart...negatives of the day, waiting to be printed by my hand. recordings of a living moment. words on canvas, confusing memories layered like thick snow on my skin...compressed sediments travel through the veins, clogging the immediate moment, flooding those around me with my waters.
