listening to eternity

funny how this world works...listening to a favorite Bruce Cockburn
thinking about eternity
some kind of ecstasty got a hold on me
and i was listening to that same song when i picked up the rock in the photo...all the fossils were red in the rocks we sat on for breakfast one morning while rafting down the colorado river thru utah canyonlands. and the essence of the fossils, how they formed in this rock inspired parts of this painting. fossilizing my day while painting, making choices, discarding remnants, layers built on top of others, parts worn away, just as parts of our souls are worn away by the mundaneness of everyday life...i sit in amazement as i listen to people at work give recognition to people able to tolerate the wearing down of their being. shake my head, glazing eyesight, shedding skin, schucking toxic moments left in the air, embracing fertile dreams and memories...rubbing them on my body let them role down the curve of my back like sweat dripping in my eyes and stinging my senses alive. aspirating transparent living energy, leaving them as salty ripples caught in the enfolding years of my life...i giggle as i lick off the morning dew of this expanding moment.

RTR

WAY green on the way up independence pass 12,200 feet above see level and over to aspen...and yes that is snow.

SNAKE RIVER in idaho, for those of you who are snake lovers....

the bike in the landscape somewhere in utah

BLOODY, BLOODY KNEE
some pictures from Ride The Rockies, a bike tour thru the colorado mountains...my bloody knee was not from a fall on the bike, but an encounter with a porta-potty door (seen on right in background) that got out of control. only blood i shed on the trip. it was cool and comfortable weather and we went thru some snow spitting on us outside of aspen. lots of food and laughs, some friends showed up to enjoy the ride and the scenery.

Training Hill (hill being the operative word when i am going to the mountains...)

Training Trail

Ride The Rockies (RTR) spoke cards to be handed out at the top of the three passes.

it has been a while since i last posted, but i feel the need...
(in salute to john denver, below is sung to "leavin on a jet plane")
my car is packed

i am sittin here inside my box
typin these words to make you all cry

best colo'ado bikin
climbin mountains and drinkin beer
i'm leavin on the 5:00 boat
dick's burger and fries on my dash
oh yeah i love to go

SORRY THAT WAS BAD.

FLYIN HIGH

flying into seattle this massive volcano filled our window...lots of personality there. some new sketches, been a little more disciplined in my sketching/drawing and utilizing my skills. still drawn to observing and drawing architecture, the shadows of form defining space with the use of line... use of line to record my thought processes. stephen and alison have worked hard to finish their house...beautiful and inspirational to draw, nice proportions. updated some paintings below, CUP OF TEA and ARTERIAL VIEW are recent additions. more to come.

a painting in progress with detail.

early morning sitting at red rocks looking east over the hogback towards green mountain and the colorado plains...

just drawin whats in front of me. blindly.

alison and i spent some very cold time looking for these gladiolas, ended up i got distracted by the table cloth blowing in the warm wind that evening...

finally got to ride in the carman gia, robins egg blue with the radio very loud...at one point i think the sky was the same color as the car.

a few views of stephen and alisons' home from the back...
